How calories are estimated

We use the Mifflin–St Jeor equation, which is widely considered the most accurate method for estimating Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR):

  • Men: BMR = 10 × kg + 6.25 × cm − 5 × age + 5
  • Women: BMR = 10 × kg + 6.25 × cm − 5 × age − 161

Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) = BMR × activity multiplier. To lose ~1 lb (0.5 kg) per week, it is recommended to eat a deficit of ~500 kcal from your TDEE; to gain, eat a surplus of ~500 kcal. These are estimates — individual needs vary based on metabolism, muscle mass, and exact activity intensity.
